It is with deep sadness that The Accessible Friends Network (TAFN) announces that our Chairman Chris Cant departed this world suddenly on November 6th 2005, following a serious coronary. Chris Cant lived in Hull, East Yorkshire with his
wife Christine & guide dog Tex. A hard working online volunteer, Chris was famed in the blind & v i community for his incredible generosity, selflessness, friendly nature, willingness to help others and good humour. |
|
Chris had fantastic computer skills and was always willing to help others, from running live online training classes, to assisting beginners in need, both via computer and telephone. He was an avid music & audio book fan, and also an online DJ, hosting the Smooth Sounds radio show on FTP Radio. Most of all he enjoyed life and loved to spread his happiness around to all. Chris had many friends online and his death was a shock to us all. This gentle giant's contribution to the blind community was enormous and he will never be forgotten. Our Sincerest Condolences to Christine Cant, and all of Chris's family.

The legacy he has left is still phenomenal & we hope you enjoy some of the above.
Chris Cant's Memorial Service was held on Wednesday 16th November 2005 in Hull, East Yorkshire. The service was very well attended, and was conducted by the Reverend Alan Craven.
A simultaneous online remembrance service was held in the Chris Cant Tribute Room on The Accessible Friends Network's internet voice server from 2.10pm, for those unable to attend in person. The online service was also well attended, and many of Chris's internet friends including internationals were there. Many thanks to volunteer Judy W who helped with this event.

Description of Chris Cant & Tex Picture: Most people who knew Chris knew he was 6 foot 7" tall, and in this picture he's wearing a pair of trainers with reflective strips, which the camera flash brought up very bright, so his feet are lit up! He's wearing pressed trousers, a smart white shirt with a brown & silver striped tie, and is crouched down with his german shepherd guide dog Tex, sitting upright between his feet. Tex looks very alert and is looking to the side with his ears firmly upright. On Chris's face (apart from his bushy eyebrows) is the cheeky grin that he will be so well remembered for, and that so many blind people heard in his booming Yorkshire voice, both on the internet and the radio.
