The philosophy behind the TAFN Golf League is to keep it simple and have fun.
Basic Principle.
If there are 16 or less players then a single division league will be operated with the basic principle being that every player in the league plays every other player in the league once. two points are awarded for a win and one point each for a draw similar to football. Players are only required to play one match per week to be arranged to suit both players. After all matches have been played the person with the most points wins. If two or more people are tied with the same number of points then the winner is determined as the player with the lowest total shot count over the entire league. If more than 16 players then a multiple division league with subsequent playoffs will be used to determine the winner. More details of this appear below in the rules section.
The Prize.
The winner of the League will have the honour of having a golf room on TAFN named after them. The room will stay so named until a subsequent league is played and a new winner is declared.
The Rules.
Multiple Division League - If the league consists of more than twenty players then a multiple division league will be operated with the players being split into a number of mixed ability divisions. Each division will operate similar to the above example whereby all players will play all other players in their own division. Once this has been done then a number of players will progress to a final playoff round to determine the overall winner of the league. The number of players that progress to the playoffs and how the playoffs are played is determined by how many divisions there are in the league. This is in turn determined by how many players there are in the league as a whole. The number of divisions is determined as follows.
17 to 25 players = 2 divisions.
26 to 34 players = 3 divisions.
35 to 43 players = 4 divisions.
The divisions will be formed by using the following method. Two drawing bags will be used, the first of which will contain the names of players with a higher ability and the other bag will contain the names of players with a lower ability. Performance in previous leagues and or the considered opinion of the league administrators will determine into which bag each player will go. The only purpose of this is to create divisions with mixed abilities so that all players will have games of varying difficulty levels which mirrors the circumstances of a single division league. Once the two bags are filled then the draw will take place. One name will be drawn from each bag alternately until all divisions are filled.
The Playoffs are determined as follows. For a 2 division league the top 2 from each division will progress to the playoffs with the winner of the first divisions playing the runner up of the second division and the winner of the second division playing the runner up of the first division in two semi finals. The winners of these two matches will progress to a final which will determine the ultimate winner of the league.
In a three division league the top two from each division will progress as well as the next two highest scoring players from any division. These two players could come from the same or different divisions. In a 4 division league the top two from each division progress to the playoffs. In both a three and four division league play off there will be 8 players and these will be split into 4 pairs decided by drawing names from a bag or similar method. The winner of play off one will play the winner of play off two and the winner of play off three will play the winner of playoff four in two semi finals. The winners of these matches will go forward to the final to decide the overall winner of the league.
The fixture list will be issued at the beginning of the league. You will
find a full copy of all the fixtures here. In addition the coming
fixtures for each week will be posted to the TAFN Golf mailing list. On top
of that you will receive an email directly each week telling you who you are
playing and what course the game is to be played on. This email will have
details of how to contact your opponent in order to arrange your game. You
must play the game before the following Sunday of each week.
You may find your self with a bye week or two at some point. If this is the
case then you will not be required to play a match but will receive two points as in the case of a win. If a division contains bye weeks then all players in that division will have a similar week at
some point during the league.
The responsibility lies equally with you and your opponent to arrange the
match. If you are unable to contact your opponent then email me at paulw@tafn.org.uk.
Please stick to the fixture list. If you are unable to play one week then
contact paulw@tafn.org.uk who will arrange a catch up match.
After each match the winner should email paulw@tafn.org.uk informing him of
the result including the date the match took place, the winner and the total
shot count of each player. For example if player one took 68 shots and
player 2 took 72 shots then player 1 should email me telling me that he won
and that the shot counts were 68 and 72.
Two points are awarded for the winner of a game and one point each if the
match is drawn.
All results and the current league table will be available on the
Leaderboard Page
The weekly matches must be played on the course specified.
All matches should be played using the tee to hole method whereby each
player takes it in turn to play a complete hole.
All players must be using PC golf version 10 written by Jim Kitchen.
Players may use either sound scheme within the game.
All games must be played on TAFN in any suitable free room.
It is up to the players whether they mind having others listening in on
their game. In the spirit of fun and good nature I would ask all players to
allow spectators however if this becomes disruptive to the players then they
may request people to leave the room or play the game in the private golf
room. Players are advised to turn off their entries and exits so that they do not become distracted during their gameplay.
All spectators are asked to not interrupt the game play once it has been
established that a league game is in play.
Both players must be able to hear each other's game play either by using the
alternate source method or quick mix or simply by locking the mike so that
the opponent can hear what you hear through the speakers.
It is requested that no one coaches either player during the game either by text message or other methods. All league players should have an understanding of how to use the golf program and also some idea of appropriate club selection. It is perfectly acceptable for a player to use a reference chart in whatever format is convenient for them to assist them with club selection but should not ask others to advise them during the game.
All players must text their shot count to all users in the room after hole nine. This is to facilitate recovery of lost games should a problem occur. Using this method at least two people will have a record of the score at hole nine if needed.
If a player experiences technical problems during the game and as a result the game crashes the following methods should be used to complete the game. If a player is not able to get back onto TAFN and start the golf then the game should be rescheduled for another time. Otherwise if the game is lost prior to hole nine then the effected player should replay all holes up to the hole that the game was lost at in the room whilst the other player waits and listens and then the game should continue normally using the new scores. If the game is lost after hole nine then the effected player should replay all holes up to where the game was lost whilst the other player waits and listens, however the score for the first nine holes will be used from the game that crashed and only the scores from any holes after hole nine will be used from the newly replayed game. Once the player has caught up the game will be continued as normal. If in any doubt then please record all scores from both the crashed game and the new game and contact the league administrator who will help you determine the result. If after three atempts to complete a game a solution has not been reached then the game should be suspended and the league administrator contacted to advise on a course of action.
If any member of the league falls behind with more than 4 games and is not contactable then the league adminustrator may take any action he feels fit to resolve the issue including removing the player from the league.
All members of the league will be added to the TAFN-golf mailing list as this will be used as a quick way to contact all league members if needed.
In the event of any disputes my decision is final so there!
