The philosophy behind the TAFN Ultimate Golf League is to have a friendly and competitive golf competition.
Basic Principle
A single division league will be operated with the basic principle being that every player in the league plays every other player in the league once. two points are awarded for a win and one point each for a draw similar to football. Players are only required to play one match per week to be arranged to suit both players. After all matches have been played the person with the most points wins. If two or more people are tied with the same number of points then the winner is determined by means of a single play-off match between all players at the top of the league with the same number of points. The maximum number of players permissable is 20.
The Prize
The winner of the League will have the honour of having a golf room on TAFN named after them. The room will stay so named until a subsequent league is played and a new winner is declared.
How to play Regulation Golf.
Decide who will play first on the first hole.
Both players take their first shots.
The player that is furthest from the hole plays next.
After each shot work out who is furthest from the hole and that player will play next.
If at any time a player goes in the water they will immediately replay their shot.
When a player lands on the green they can immediately continue until they complete the hole.
The player that wins the hole will play first on the next hole. If the hole is tied then the player who played first on this hole will play firs ton the next one.
The rules and other info
Acceptence into the league will only be granted once the golf league administrator is satisfied that a player knows how to play the game using the regulation method on the communicator. To this end it may be required for you to play a pre-league game with one of our golf mentors to ensure you are comfortable with the process of using the jim kitchen golf game in conjunction with the communicator.
The fixture list will be issued at the beginning of the league. You will find a full copy of all the >fixtures on the website at www.tafn.org.uk/golf/l2009-2fixtures.html. In addition the coming fixtures for each week will be posted to the TAFN Golf mailing list. On top of that you will receive an email directly each week telling you who you are playing and what course the game is to be played on. This email will have details of how to contact your opponent in order to arrange your game. You must play the game before the following Sunday of each week.
You may find your self with a bye week or two at some point. If this is the case then you will not be required to play a match but will receive two points as in the case of a win. If a division contains bye weeks then all players in that division will have a similar week at some point during the league.
The responsibility lies equally with you and your opponent to arrange the match. If you are unable to contact your opponent then email me at paulw@tafn.org.uk
Please stick to the fixture list. If you are unable to play one week then contact paulw@tafn.org.uk who will arrange a catch up match.
If any match remains unplayed for two weeks from the time the fixture was issued without good reason then the golf league administrator will decide the result of the match.
After each match the winner should email paulw@tafn.org.uk informing him of the result It is only required to record the result not the shot count.
Two points are awarded for the winner of a game and one point each if the match is drawn.
All results and the current league table will be available on the Leaderboard Page at www.tafn.org.uk/golf/l2009-2leaderboard.html.
The weekly matches must be played on the course specified.
All matches should be played using the regulation method.
All players must be using PC golf version 10 written by Jim Kitchen.
Players must use the standard sound scheme in he game Alternative with bleeps is not permissable.
Ambient sounds should be turned off.
All games must be played on TAFN in any suitable free room.
It is up to the players whether they mind having others listening in on their game. I would ask all players to allow spectators however if this becomes disruptive to the players then they may request people to leave the room or play the game in the private golf room. Players are advised to turn off their entries and exits so that they do not become distracted during their gameplay.
All spectators are asked to not interrupt the game play once it has been established that a league game is in play.
Both players must be able to hear each other's game play either by using the alternate source method or quick mix or simply by locking the mike so that the opponent can hear what you hear through the speakers.
It is requested that no one coaches either player during the game either by text message or other methods. It is perfectly acceptable for a player to use a reference chart in whatever format is convenient for them to assist them with club selection but should not ask others to advise them during the game.
Chat between players is permissable but should be kept to a minimum and absolutely no sledging, goading, baiting or teasing should take place either during the games or when discussing the league or players.
Any player deemed to be behaving in an un-sportsmenlike manner may be asked to leave the league.
All players must text their shot count to all users in the room after hole nine. This is to facilitate recovery of lost games should a problem occur. Using this method at least two people will have a record of the score at hole nine if needed.
If a player experiences technical problems during the game and as a result the game crashes the following methods should be used to complete the game.
Scenario 1: If a player is not able to get back on to TAFN and they had not yet reached hole 9 in the game then the game will be rescheduled for another time with both players restarting from hole 1.
Scenario 2: If a player is not able to get back on to TAFN but the players had passed hole 9 and recorded their half way scores then the game should be rescheduled with both players starting their scoring from hole 9 and adding the new back 9 score to the front 9 score from the lost game to determine the winner.
Scenario 3: If the player is able to get back on to TAFN shortly after the crash and the players had not yet reached hole 9 then the unaffected player will wait whilst the player who experienced the problem starts the game again and plays catch up to the current hole and then the game can continue from there. This catch up play must be done in the room so both players can here the game play.
Scenario 4: If the player is able to get back on to TAFN shortly after the crash and the players had already passed hole 9 and recorded their halfway scores then the unaffected player should wait while the player who experienced the problem plays catch up to hole 9. This part of the play does not need to be carried out in the room but the score at the end of hole nine should be recorded as it will be needed after the game is finished. Once the player has reach hole 9 then they should continue on and catch up to the hole on which the game was lost. This part of the catch up must be done in the room with both players able to hear the game play. Once the player has caught up then the game can continue as normal to the end. The player who had the crash should calculate their shot count as follows. They should take the final shot count of the catch-up game and minus the score at hole 9 from this game. Then they should add the score at hole 9 from the lost game and this will give them their final shot count which should be compared to that of the other player to determine the winner of the game.
If after three atempts to complete a game a solution has not been reached then the game should be suspended and the league administrator contacted to advise on a course of action.
If any member of the league falls behind with more than 3 games and is not contactable then the league adminustrator may take any action he feels fit to resolve the issue including removing the player from the league.
All members of the league will be added to the TAFN-golf mailing list as this will be used as a quick way to contact all league members if needed.
Multiple Division League - If the league consists of more than 16 players then a multiple division league will be operated with the players being split into a number of mixed ability divisions. Each division will operate similar to the above example whereby all players will play all other players in their own division. Once this has been done then 2 players from each division will progress to a final playoff round to determine the overall winner of the league. The number of divisions is determined as follows.
17 to 32 players = 2 divisions.
33+ players = 4 divisions.
The divisions will be formed by using the following method. Two drawing bags will be used, the first of which will contain the names of players with a higher ability and the other bag will contain the names of players with a lower ability. Performance in previous leagues and or the considered opinion of the league administrators will determine into which bag each player will go. The only purpose of this is to create divisions with mixed abilities so that all players will have games of varying difficulty levels which mirrors the circumstances of a single division league. Once the two bags are filled then the draw will take place. One name will be drawn from each bag alternately until all divisions are filled.
The Playoffs are determined as follows. For a 2 division league the top 2 from each division will progress to the playoffs with the winner of the first divisions playing the runner up of the second division and the winner of the second division playing the runner up of the first division in two semi finals. The winners of these two matches will progress to a final which will determine the ultimate winner of the league.
In a 4 division league the top two from each division progress to the playoffs. These 8 players will be split into 2 groups of 4 as follows. Group 1 will consist the winners of division 1 and 3 and the runners up from division 2 and 4. Group 2 will consist of the winners of division 2 and 4 and the runners up of division 1 and 3. Each group of 4 will have a single game with the winner of each game progressing to the final to decide the overall winner of the league.
In the event of any disputes the decision of the league administrator is final.
