"For those new to trying online shopping as a blind person, I can’t profess that things are always going to be easy. A very great deal of time and patience may often be needed, but the satisfaction of sending off an order and the excitement while waiting for goods to arrive outweighs, for me anyway, all those hours spent on my computer beforehand." Sue Pallett.
We welcome contributions from members, friends and guests, to this page!
It can probably never be said that all online shopping websites are completely accessible to those of us who use specialist screen reader technology, simply because website designs change so frequently and are always being updated - often making them more difficult to use. The sites reviewed in this guide, are tried and tested by screen reader users, who have found them easier to negotiate than most, using speech with JAWS for Windows. Although many sites take time to negotiate and get to know, some have explanatory homepages, good product descriptions, helpful customer services and are relatively easy. Sadly though a few have tricky, very time consuming check out processes. All sites reviewed here have been investigated, and items have been purchased on most! Reviewing also features customer service, including courier delivery, services and returns.
Many websites have alternative ways to buy and pay for goods, we couldn't possibly mention them all here. Each review simply gives a brief impression of each website with a short synopsis, leaving you to make your own voyage of discovery.
