The Accessible Friends Network
Welcome to the TAFN Communicator, our live private VoIP server which is online 24 hours per day. We are Glad you have decided to join our Community and we hope you enjoy this friendly server. This is just to give a brief outline of the server and our particular Guidelines. We want to make these as few as possible, but must outline the main ones for you.
Anyone who applies to join our server should be aware that they need to be over 18 years of age and either:-
This is due to the fact that we are a UK based charity and these restrictions are also built into our Constitution, which you can study in detail if you wish.
The TAFN Constitution (Word format)
We have a definite policy on screen names. We do not accept slang nicknames and must ask you to use your proper name when signing up to the server. We accept combinations such as "Jo from Winchester", "Jo Smith", or "Jo S". Please observe this when applying for membership.
Anyone who joins the server will be logged in as a Guest unless they have already taken up paid membership of the Charity before their application. Guests will be given a 1 month evaluation period, in which they are given full access to the TAFN Communicator VoIP server including our high quality stereo rooms.
After this trial period, Guests will have the opportunity to join the charity, either under Associate membership (for members abroad), or Full UK membership. The current cost of this is 12 pounds per year.
Contact our Treasurer for details of TAFN membership rates
At the request of our members, after this period if a Guest chooses not to take up paid TAFN membership, they will be notified and their account will be removed from the server.
A variety of rooms are open to all on the server, and ample opportunity will be given to all to participate. A list of event organisers will be provided on our website and events are announced on our e-mail lists both on a daily and weekly basis. At all times all server users are welcome to log in and chat whenever they choose. Technical support can be provided, however and it should be recognised that all our Tech Support is done on a voluntary basis and due consideration should be shown with reasonable notice if at all possible if help is needed. If there is a problem with access to the server priority will be given to such matters.
Please observe courtesy at all times when chatting in the rooms. Moderators are assigned to the server and will be visible to participants by the word "moderator" beside their name, Tech Support advisors will also be marked in the same way. We do like to keep the server as friendly as possible and our moderators do not tend to step in unless a situation is out of hand, in which case, they do have the power to request adherence to the server guidelines or in extreme events to eject a participant from the room. Please refer to our current server guidelines for full details.
TAFN Communicator Server Guidelines
There is also a Code of Conduct that server participants are encouraged to read
TAFN Code of Conduct (revised December 2003)
There are a number of handy tutorials on our website and we advise you, if you are unfamiliar with the Communicator, to take advantage of these to enhance your experience on the server.
(Technical support audio files will be available here soon!)
We will also hold regular events to introduce new users to more frequent users of the server. These will be conducted in the CAMEO (Come And Meet Everyone) Room. Or why not just drop into our online lounge!
There is a Skype/MSN Directory on TAFN communicator where you are welcome to lodge your details so that other members of the server can easily contact you if this is what you wish.
We do hope you enjoy your experience on the TAFN Communicator and look forward to meeting you in the near future.
