Ripping An Individual CD Track Ripping an individual CD track is the process of extracting the track from the CD you insert into your CD drive and converting it to a format into which you can play directly from your computer without needing the CD itself to do so. The following steps will guide you through the process. 1. Open the C-Dex program. 2. Place the CD from which you wish to rip into the designated CD/DVD drive. 3. Wait a few seconds for the CD to spin up and the program to recognise the CD. 4. With most CD's, the program will recognise the CD and display a list of the tracks on the screen which you can read with your screen reader. 5. If for some reason the program is confused about the CD title which can sometimes happen, it will present you with a combo box of what it thinks the CD is. 6. If this occurs, arrow through the list until you find the best match and then press the "Tab" key until you find the "OK" button and press the "enter" key. 7. This is fairly rare. 8. Once the list has been generated, press the up or down arrow keys to deselect the tracks. 9. This is necessary as by default all tracks (the whole CD) is selected when the program recognises the CD. 10. Now using the up and down arrow keys, select the individual track you wish to rip. 11. Once this is done, you have a choice of output file type. 12. To convert the track to a "wav" format track, press the "f8" key. 13. to convert the track to an "mp3" format track, press the "f9" key. 14. Mp3 is usually the preferred conversion option due to its requiring much less space on your computer than the "wav" format. 15. The program will now convert your chosen track to your desired format. 16. Time taken depends on machine speed, ram, drive speed etc. 17. If set up correctly, once the conversion process is complete, the computer will eject the CD. 18. If not set up, you will have to eject the CD manually. 19. You can now close C-Dex. 20. Your converted track should be in a folder called "mp3", in the "my music" folder of your "my documents" folder. 21. From here you can play or copy and paste it to any part of your machine.
